Mississippi is not a franchise registration state nor a franchise filing state. So, you may offer or sell your franchise without registering or filing your Franchise Disclosure Document (“FDD”) with the state, provided that you are compliant with the Federal Franchise Rule. However, Mississippi does prohibit franchisors from terminating or not renewing a franchise agreement without providing the franchisees 90 days’ notice of their decision, except in a few scenarios where notice is not required.

Fun Fact: The term “teddy bear” originated in Mississippi thanks to President Theodore Roosevelt’s refusal to kill a trapped bear during a hunting trip. A candy shop owner saw a political cartoon of the event and was inspired to create a stuffed animal that he called “Teddy’s Bear.”
